On February 22nd, a functioning nuclear power plant in Fessenheim (North-Eastern France) will be shut down - not because it’s unsafe (it’s not) but for political reasons. The second of the two Fessenheim plants will be closed in June. Nuclear energy accounts for 72% of electricity production in France.
The closure has been denounced as economically wasteful and ecologically counter-productive.
