Coal mine protest in Germany
Hundreds of activists are occupying the village of Lützerath in western Germany, hoping to stop the mining of lignite (brown coal) on the site.
Over 30,000 people have already been forced to leave their homes to make way for the Garzweiler open pit mine. Activists see Lützerath as their last stand.
But the police are mobilising too. An order to evacuate comes into effect on January 10th.
